More recently, a 200 megapixel camera module in a smartphone seemed either something unrealistic or very expensive. But very soon the situation may change.
The thing is that OmniVision introduced its own module with a resolution of 200 megapixels. The OVB0A sensor has a matrix measuring about 1/1.4 inches, which, although it makes it quite large, is still inferior to the Samsung ISOCELL HP1.
The sensor also reportedly supports shooting 4K video at 120fps or 8K at 30fps. Estimated release date for the new product is Q4 2022.
Given that many manufacturers of mid-budget (and sometimes budget) smartphones often use OmniVision, we should expect a lot of low-cost 200 MP smartphones in 2023.
