Not so long ago, specialists from the Wealth-X Research Institute used data on billionaires and presented a list of parts of the world, countries and cities where the richest people in the world live. On top of that, they calculated how much money they all have. It turned out to be a very interesting map.

According to Wealth-X, there are 3,311 billionaires worldwide. All of them together have a fortune of 11.8 trillion dollars – it is difficult for most people to imagine how much this is. Also, statistics collected by experts shows that the number of rich people in the world is constantly growing. So, in 2021, the number of billionaires grew by as much as 3%. At the same time, billionaires continue to get richer – over the same period, their overall fortune has grown by 18%.

Wealth-X used self-collected data to determine where the wealthiest people live. The status of a billionaire was assigned to a person based on his total capital, including public and private enterprises and investment assets. For the place of residence of the billionaire, experts considered the address of his main place of work.

Based on the data collected, it turned out that most of the billionaires live in North America – there are 1,035 of them in total and their total fortune is 4.6 trillion dollars. This is not surprising, because most of the large companies like SpaceX, Amazon, and so on are located in the United States. In total, 975 billionaires live there, including Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates and many other well-known people from the world of technology.

There are also a lot of billionaires in Europe, and their number is growing rapidly. For example, in 2021 their number increased by 22% and at the moment there are 954 of them. Asia is the third richest part of the world with 899 billionaires. It is worth noting that Asia is not so far behind Europe.

Of particular note is the sixth item on the list, which is Africa. Only 46 billionaires live there, but their wealth is constantly growing. In addition, one should not exclude the fact that many rich people from African countries have not lived in their homeland for a long time. If you take this into account, there are many more Africans among the billionaires.

Finally, Wealth-X experts named a list of cities where the most rich people live. In first place was New York – there are 138 billionaires. Next on the list are Chinese Hong Kong with 114 billionaires and American San Francisco with 85 rich people. Moscow was in fifth place on the list – there are 75 billionaires in the Russian capital.
