Warned there would be layoffs
Tesla CEO Elon Musk spoke via video link for the first time with 8,000 employees of the social network Twitter. During the conversation, he admitted about the need for layoffs and talked about the future of the company.
Musk said that Twitter needs to be “healthy” and reduce the staff to a rational number of employees. Also, the potential owner and head of the social network called “not a good situation” the fact that the company’s expenses are less than income.
Regarding the future of the company, Elon Musk noted that he plans to increase Twitter’s revenue to $24.6 billion by 2028. To do this, in his opinion, it is necessary to add to the existing social network functions similar to those of the Chinese WeChat and make Twitter a “super application” with which users can call a taxi, pay for orders, make various payments, etc.
Musk also said that Twitter should aim for the results of TikTok – they never have “boring” content. Against this backdrop, he proposed giving users more freedom to post “rather outrageous” tweets.
In addition, Elon Musk emphasized that he wants to increase the audience of the social network: now there are 229 million monetized active users daily, the entrepreneur wants to achieve 1 billion users.
When asked about remote work, which Musk opposes, he said that if there are employees working “exclusively”, then they may not come to the office.
Musk declined to answer the question of what he would do if he became the head of Twitter. Instead, he launched into a lengthy discourse about aliens, saying that he had not yet seen actual evidence of their existence.
