Toyota has updated its largest SUV, the Sequoia. The new version of the 2023 model year with a bunch of changes will go on sale this summer. We tell you what exactly this monster got new.
Versions of Toyota Sequoia 2023
The car will be produced in several trim levels: base, SR5, Limited, Platinum, flagship Capstone, as well as three “charged” versions of TRD : Sport, Off-Road or Pro .
Engine, drive and gearbox
The new Sequoia has lost its usual V8 and for the first time received a hybrid engine. This is a gasoline i-FORCE MAX V6 with a double turbine and a volume of 3.4 liters , giving out 437 “horses ” . Similar engines are already being installed on Tundra pickups ( only weaker – by 348 hp). Paired with an internal combustion engine, an electric motor will work, which is needed more to save fuel: in pure electric mode, the Sequoia will be able to accelerate to a maximum of 29 km / h.
The base version will have only rear-wheel drive. The SR5, Limited, Platinum and Capstone versions will come with a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive, while the top -of-the-line TRD will only get all-wheel drive.
The transmission is a 10-speed “automatic” with a special mode for towing Tow / Haul trailers, in which the electric and internal combustion engines will constantly work together.
Outside and inside
Like its closest brother, the Tundra pickup, the Sequoia is built on the same platform as the Land Cruiser 300, so they have the same general features. The differences are noticeable only in the details – the radiator grille has become larger and wider, the wings have also expanded, new LED headlights have appeared, the rear roof pillars have leaned forward more.
What is “inside”?
The salon is three-row, it can be 7- or 8-seater. The third row is always designed for three people, and in all versions except the basic one it has a longitudinal adjustment of the seats within 15.2 cm , however, it cannot be folded into a flat floor – the place there is occupied by the traction battery and the rear axle. The second row can be in the form of a classic triple “sofa”, or as 2 separate chairs.
Equipment
The basic package of the new Seqouia includes:
- on-board Wi-Fi and LTE with up to 5 devices connected simultaneously;
- Bluetooth with up to 2 devices connection;
- 8″ voice control display and 12.3″ head- up display;
- Cruise control;
- Safety Sense 2.5 helper package ;
- marking control and automatic braking systems;
- electric trunk.
They promise to sell new Sequoias from the summer. Previously, they were assembled in Indiana (along with the Highlander and Sienna models), but now production has been moved to Texas – the same place where the Toyota Tundra is assembled. Prices, even approximate, have not yet been reported.
