Scientists from the National Research University Higher School of Economics studied 821 professional e-sports players and stated that obesity was associated with success in computer games.
Researchers in particular studied players in Counter Strike: Global Offensive. Scientists determined the body mass index (BMI) of esports athletes from photographs using a machine learning algorithm.
The results of the analysis showed that in short round matches, obese players of the third degree lagged behind players with a normal BMI in results. But the longer the game went on, the higher the results showed gamers with obesity.
The scientists also came to the conclusion that if overweight esportsmen had to participate in tournaments with “live” spectators, they played worse. Perhaps it has to do with discrimination.
