Samsung Galaxy Fold4 unveiled with new hardware, improved design and cameras

Share

Samsung has unveiled the fourth generation of the Fold smartphone. The novelty has received improved ergonomics, even more functions for working on a large screen and noticeable improvements in cameras.

The body of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is 3.1 mm shorter than its predecessor, but not wider – when closed, it has the same 67.1 mm. The weight of the smartphone is 263 grams, the thickness is 6.3 mm when open and 15.8 mm when closed.

Due to thinner frames, the dimensions of both displays have increased. The external screen has a diagonal of 6.2 inches and a resolution of 904×2316 pixels, the main internal screen is 7.6 inches when open. Both matrices are made using Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology, support HDR10 + and are updated with an adaptive frequency of 120 Hz. The maximum brightness is 1000 nits.

The frame of the Galaxy Z Fold4 is made of Armor aluminum alloy, while the display surface and back are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+. The phone received an IPX8 water protection rating (it can be immersed in fresh water to a depth of 1.5 m for up to 30 minutes). The reliability of the screen is also on the level – the novelty is guaranteed to survive up to 200,000 folds.

The main camera on the rear panel is triple, it was borrowed from the flagships Galaxy S22 and S22+. It uses a 50MP main module with OIS, a 10MP 3x zoom, and a 12MP ultra wide-angle lens.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is powered by the powerful and efficient Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset paired with 12GB of RAM. The storage capacity is 256 GB or 512 GB, the 1 TB variant will be available in some regions exclusively on the official website of the brand.

The battery capacity remains the same – 4400 mAh. Although the charging power is the same 25W, it’s actually faster than last year’s model – a 30-minute charge now charges the battery by 50%, while the Z Fold3 only charged up to 33%. It also supports 15W wireless charging.

Samsung got confused over the software of the smartphone. The Home screen now has a taskbar similar to the iPad Dock that gives you instant access to frequently used and recent apps. Many programs have been optimized to work in multi-window mode on a large 7.6-inch screen, and now offer tablet-like functionality.

Flex Mode has appeared – the phone can be folded halfway into a position similar to a laptop, splitting the program interface into two screens. The S Pen has also learned a new trick – text extraction. For example, you are viewing a person’s contact information and you have their address saved – just highlight the address with the stylus and drag it onto Google Maps to quickly navigate to that place. Similar to copy and paste, but with the ease of using the S Pen.
