Qualcomm: Processor for low-cost gaming smartphones in 2022 announced

As expected, Qualcomm today unveiled not only the flagship Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, but also a chip for more affordable devices – Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.

Oddly enough, the company not only changed the naming of the series, but also noticeably “pumped” the latest generation of its mid-budget processors.

The new CPU is Kryo-cores operating at up to 2.4 GHz. The GPU Adreno 662 is responsible for the video part.

Qualcomm representatives said that the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 video processor, in comparison with the Snapdragon 778G, is 20% more productive.

At the same time, the fresh chip received support for specific gaming technologies, which were collected under the general name Snapdragon Elite Gaming.

Among other things, we can note support for cameras with a resolution of up to 200 megapixels, as well as recording 4K video with HDR technology.

It is reported that the first smartphones running Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 will be released in the II quarter of 2022.
