Currently, there are two main concepts in parallel in the foldable smartphone market – “screen out” (Huawei) and “screen in” (Samsung, OPPO, Vivo and others).
Korean LG, which left the smartphone market , but continues to be one of the world’s leading manufacturers of displays, decided not to compromise.
She went further and brought to Display Week 2022 a real prototype of a device with a display that folds on both sides. As in Samsung solutions, UTG technology (“ultra-thin glass”) is used here.
The OLED panel itself has a diagonal of 8.03 “with a resolution of 2480 x 2200 pixels (413 ppi) and a brightness of 430 nits (typ) and 600 nits (peak).
At the same time, the development has excellent reliability: according to LG, the panel is rated for 200,000 It is possible that one day this development will be implemented by one of the manufacturers in a real smartphone.
Another interesting project from LG was a 17 “folding OLED panel that implements something similar to a touch laptop.
