A group of engineers and physicians at the Indian Institute of Science have developed a new type of nanorobot called Theranautilus.
With their help, specialists have learned how to clean teeth from bacteria where traditional dental equipment most often cannot reach. Miniature robots are controlled by a magnetic field.
By comparison, existing treatments for dental infections are capable of penetrating up to 800 micrometers. At the same time, in Theranautilus, this figure reaches 2000 micrometers.
So far, the nanorobots have been successfully tested on mice. The next step is to adapt the instrument for use on humans.
