It is unlikely that anyone will be a revelation of the fact that a lot of viruses are spreading on the Internet. But have you ever thought about just how much?
Antivirus software company AV-Test shared fresh data on this subject, and the numbers turned out to be sky-high. Since the beginning of 2022, 34 million samples of new virus programs have been detected, which means that 316 thousand new malware appears every day.
The largest outbreak of viruses occurred at the beginning of the year, in February, 8.93 million viruses were detected, in March, slightly less – 8.77 million. And in total, the first quarter of 2022 accounted for 29.11 million fresh viruses and trojans. By April, their number had risen by another 5.65 million.
Of course, virus activity is very different from one operating system to another. And here, by a wide margin, Windows is in the lead, the brainchild of Microsoft accounted for 25.48 million new virus programs. In second place was Android – 536 thousand. The third most popular macOS is 2,000.
But even such a relatively small amount of malware is considered unacceptable by Apple and wants to reduce virus activity to the absolute minimum that we can see on mobile iOS. The dominance of viruses on Windows and Android, by the way, is one of Apple’s key arguments in favor of allowing the user to install applications exclusively from the AppStore.
