What is a lithium ion battery
Lithium-ion batteries consist of two negatively charged electrodes separated by a liquid electrolyte. This means that the battery can only be made in the form of a parallelepiped. Due to their design and low production cost, such batteries have become popular in our time, although they were invented more than 100 years ago. In addition, lithium-ion batteries do not have the memory effect that other batteries have. But there are also disadvantages known to all users.

Lithium polymer batteries use positively and negatively charged electrodes, but do not use liquid as an electrolyte. Instead, a porous chemical or gel-like electrolyte is used. It is believed that lithium-polymer batteries have been used in smartphones quite recently, for example, in the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+. But everyone forgets that removable batteries in Sony Ericsson (for example, in the W200 and K750) were lithium-polymer. Unlike lithium-ion batteries, lithium-polymer batteries are not necessarily packed in a hard case: the batteries of the above mobile phones were soft-packed. These batteries have their own advantages.

- Lithium-ion batteries do not have a memory effect, while lithium-polymer batteries are still recommended to be fully charged from time to time, and then discharged to zero.
- Lithium-polymer batteries lose their maximum capacity faster : mobile phones with such batteries were discharged very quickly and over time they had to be recharged several times a day. Once again, lithium-ion batteries are better.
- Lithium-ion batteries are much cheaper to produce, despite the disadvantages. Therefore, lithium polymer batteries are used only in rare cases, for example, when the price of the device is so high that the cost of the battery does not matter.
But not everything is so clear. Lithium polymer batteries have their advantages. So, they do not explode during depressurization due to the peculiarities of their structure, and they are also much more resistant to mechanical damage. In addition, the percentage of rejects and fakes of lithium-polymer batteries is much lower – their exclusivity plays into the hands here.
