This is strange
Germany’s federal cartel agency, the Bundeskartellamt, has launched legal proceedings against Apple to find out whether its rules to limit tracking of its users and its anti-tracking technology are anti-competitive and self-serving.
In particular, its app tracking transparency system will be reviewed to see if it is a “barrier” to third-party apps on the iOS platform.
Introduced in April 2021 with the release of iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5, Apple’s App Tracking Transparency mechanism requires all apps on iPhone and iPad to ask for user consent before tracking activity. Apps that want to track a user based on their device’s unique advertising ID can only do so if the user allows it when prompted.
