Apple has introduced a new iPhone, although the term “new” is a bit of an exaggeration in its case, because the iPhone 14 brings so little new to its direct predecessor that it deserves to be called the iPhone 13 2.0 or the iPhone 13S. The main novelty is the larger iPhone 14 Plus, which replaced the “mini” series that failed in sales.
iPhone 14 and 14 Plus Specifications
The base model is 6.1-inch, while the iPhone 14 Plus has a 6.7-inch OLED display. Both reach a brightness of up to 1200 nits, are covered with Ceramic Shield glass, and the body of the devices is IP68 dust and water resistant.
The heart of the smartphones is the Apple A15 Bionic processor with 5-core GPU, 6-core CPU, 16-core NPU and 5G modem. Thanks to the new image processing chip, photos should be better than on the iPhone 13. The main camera has a resolution of 12 MP (f / 1.5) and a pixel size of 1.9 microns, as well as optical image stabilization. Next to it is a camera with an ultra-wide-angle lens for the same 13 MP. On the front is a new TrueDepth front camera with autofocus.
iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are designed to work with eSIM. Models sold in the US won’t get a physical SIM slot at all, but devices for other countries will keep it this year.
iPhone 14 and 14 Plus offer accident detection with automatic emergency calls, as well as another new safety feature – satellite communications, which will allow you to call for help where there is no cellular coverage. The service is available in the US and Canada and will be free for two years from the date of purchase of the iPhone.
