A new report shows that Huawei still has the largest number of active smartphone users. But how is this possible for a company that has been under US sanctions since 2019?
The chart below shows that Huawei (华为) has a 25 percent share among active Chinese smartphone users. It is followed by Apple and Oppo. And this is all despite the fact that Huawei’s supplies are rapidly declining – the company is no longer even in the top 5 largest suppliers in China.
Why does Huawei retain such a large number of active users? Firstly, this is largely due to the unfavorable economic situation. People’s demand for consumer electronics is showing signs of slowing down.
In addition, Counterpoint data shows that the replacement cycle for Chinese users has increased from 24.3 months at the beginning of 2019 to 31 months. Huawei, on the other hand, has a solid foundation – in the past, the company was the market leader.
