If you happen to encounter nasty phone calls, the best course of action is to block the number and hope that puts an end to it. It’s very easy to block a number on an iPhone. Here’s how to do it.
How to block a number on iPhone
There are two ways to block a number. Which one you use depends on whether the caller is in your Contacts app or not.
Through call history logs
If this number is not listed as one of your contacts in the Contacts app, you need to view your call history logs. It can be accessed by going to the phone app and clicking on Recent at the bottom. Click on the i icon next to the number you want to block. Don’t click on the actual number or the number will dial!
Now scroll down the page and click Block caller .
Through the Contacts app
If the person is on your contact list, you can still use the previous method. But the alternative is to look up the number in the Contacts app and block from there. You can access your contacts by going to the Phone app and tapping Contacts at the bottom of the screen.
How to manage blocked contacts
Going to Settings –> Phone –> Blocked contacts , you can manage the list of blocked numbers and delete any of them if you change your mind. Click edit to get started.
Click on the red circle next to the number you want to unblock. When it disappears from the list, it will unlock. Click Done to save your changes.
How to send unknown numbers to voicemail
One of the great features is to send all unknown numbers (numbers not in contacts) directly to voicemail. If you do this, any numbers that aren’t in your contact book won’t even ring the phone, but will instead be redirected to voicemail. In most cases, spammers and marketers don’t even leave messages, saving you the hassle of responding and listening to their chatter.
Just go to Settings –> Phone –> Mute unknowns .
Turn this feature on. As indicated on the screen, calls will still ring if you’ve called them yourself recently (last outgoing calls), because the phone will consider these numbers to be “known”.
What happens when you block a number on iPhone
When you block someone on iPhone:
- If a blocked contact tries to send you a message, you won’t receive those messages. But they won’t know it.
- Blocked phone numbers are sent straight to voicemail and iPhone won’t ring. However, if they leave a message, it goes into a separate dedicated section of the voicemail app that you can completely ignore.
