Google announced that its map service has begun to show a new function for estimating the amount you will have to pay to travel on a given route. The option is rolled out in applications for Android and iOS.
Some journalists have already seen how the function works. Google claims that the displayed prices are based on “reliable information from local authorities” and take into account tolls and time of day when calculating the total cost. In fact, the company simply collected information about the fares for travel on toll roads.
Google noted that the new feature is available for “nearly 2,000” toll roads in the US, India, Japan, and Indonesia. The company plans to add support for more countries “soon.”
