Genius or weird? New JBL headphones with a touch screen on the case

The latest headphone release from JBL brings a breath of fresh air to the industry. The charging case of the Tour Pro 2 is called “smart” and, among other things, it is equipped with … a touch screen. Why is this needed?

Using the screen, the user will be able to manage the settings (turn on / off noise reduction, “transparency” mode, etc.), control the charge of the headphones, and even view notifications and receive calls. That is, in fact, the Tour Pro 2 case is a partial replacement for a smart watch.

In the case of notifications, this is probably not the first need, but changing the settings in this way is a really useful feature. Most often, the headphones are controlled using an application on a smartphone or using buttons / sensors on the headphones themselves. The latter method is not entirely convenient and intuitive, and if the accessory is connected to a laptop or TV, then there are no more options left.

The display will correct such a situation. What’s more, JBL claims that changing settings with the case is about 7 times faster than with the app.

Of course, the Tour Pro 2 headphones also have a lot to offer in terms of music. They connect to a smartphone via Bluetooth 5.3 LE and provide up to 10 hours of battery life. The charging case increases the total usage time to 40 hours.

Other specs include 10mm dynamic drivers, JBL Spatial Sound support, and 6 microphones for active noise cancellation. Price? The JBL Tour Pro 2 headphones are expected to go on sale in Europe in early 2023 for a price of 249 euros.
