What became known after leaks from the meetings of the main office of the company in China
U.S. user data has been repeatedly accessed from China, according to the latest TikTok meeting audio leak, according to Gizmodo.
The leak was first reported by BuzzFeed News, which spoke of audio recordings from more than 80 internal TikTok meetings in China.
Specifically, BuzzFeed claims the records include 14 statements from nine employees who acknowledge that engineers had access to US user data for at least five months, from September 2021 to January 2022.
According to BuzzFeed, eight different employees of the US division of TikTok said they did not receive permission to access the data and described situations when they had to seek approval from their Chinese counterparts.
One of the members of TikTok’s trust and safety department allegedly admitted: “In China, everyone sees.” In another entry, one TikTok data analyst allegedly told a colleague, “I am receiving instructions from the main office in Beijing.”
