Sony held a presentation of the Xperia 1 IV – the fourth generation of the flagship camera phone. The device retained the familiar design of its predecessor and received several technical and software improvements.
Let’s start with the cameras: the Japanese have worked on the periscope module introduced in the Xperia 1 III: now it covers longer focal lengths (85-125 mm instead of 70-105 mm), which means an improved optical zoom factor.
In addition, all three main cameras now support 4K HDR video recording at 120 fps. But the main and wide-angle modules have not changed again.
It is impossible not to mention a whole scattering of smart algorithms for photo and video shooting, as well as an additional shutter button on the end.
As before, the display is represented by a 6.5 “OLED panel with a resolution of 4K, but it has become an impressive 50% brighter than its predecessor. The front camera is still located in the classic frame on top, and its resolution has been increased to 12 MP, and the sensor itself has become larger, which will have a positive effect on shooting in low light.
The Xperia 1 IV is based on the top Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, for which an overheating prevention system is announced. The device is powered by a 5000 mAh battery with the previous 30-W charging, however, the unit is no longer included in the package – you will have to buy it separately.
On the other hand, Sony has kept the 3.5mm audio jack and improved the stereo speakers, which will sound more spacious. The case is protected from water and dust (IP65 / 68), made of a metal frame and frosted glass on the back, and Gorilla Glass Victus is used both in front and behind.
The color palette has not changed and still includes white, black and purple options. The Sony Xperia 1 IV will hit the shelves in a single 12/256 GB configuration at a price of 1299 pounds.
