Will Smith may be hearing back about potential sanctions for his actions at the Oscars sooner than expected. The Academy board of governors will now be meeting today, Friday 8th of April.

The Academy Statement
In a letter to the board obtained by NBC news, academy president David Rubin explained that the meeting was pushed up after Will Smith resigned from the academy this past Friday.
He explained.
Following Mr Smith’s resignation of his academy membership on Friday April 1, suspension or expulsion are no longer a possibility and legally prescribed timetable no longer applies. It is in the best interest of all involved for this to be handled in a timely fashion.
Will Smith announced his resignation in a statement last week and said that he would accept any further consequences the board deems appropriate.
He wrote in part:
My actions of the 90 fourth Academy Awards presentation were shockingly painful and inexcusable. The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance and global audiences at home. I betrayed the trust of the academy. I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work.
